Gaecheonjeol − National Foundation Day
Every year on October 3, Korea celebrates Gaecheonjeol (개천절), also known as National Foundation Day.

Gaecheonjeol commemorates the founding of Gojoseon, traditionally regarded as the first Korean kingdom. According to Korean mythology, Dangun Wanggeom founded Gojoseon in 2333 BCE.

The name Gaecheonjeol means “the day the heavens opened.” It comes from the traditional story of Hwanung, who descended from heaven to live among people and help create a better world. According to the legend, Hwanung married a bear-turned-woman named Ungnyeo, and their son Dangun later became the founder of Gojoseon.

Today, Gaecheonjeol is a national holiday in Korea and is a day to reflect on Korea’s long history and cultural heritage. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the traditions and stories that have been passed down through generations.
Happy Gaecheonjeol! 🇰🇷We hope this day gives you a chance to learn a little more about Korean history and culture.
